The 49ers have joined the free agency fray. According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, San Francisco has agreed to a 2-year, $20 million deal with edge rusher Leonard Floyd worth up to $24 million.

Floyd, 31, was the 9th overall pick in the 2016 Draft by the Chicago Bears. He joined the Rams in 2020 for a three-year stint before spending last season with the Buffalo Bills.

In the last four seasons, Floyd has sack totals of 10.5, 9.5, 9.0 and 10.5, respectively. He did not grade out all that well by Pro Football Focus last season, ranking 97th out of 122 qualified edge rushers, with a 56.3 grade on the season.

While Floyd was a better run defender with Chicago early in his career, he profiled more as a pass rusher since he joined the Rams.

His expected role would more often be as a third-down pass rusher, not as a run defender, leaving the 49ers still in need of someone to take on that role opposite Nick Bosa.
