The 49ers joined the free agency free Monday, adding a pair of defensive ends at upper-mid-level prices. San Francisco reportedly signed veteran Leonard Floyd to a two-year, $20 million deal and Yetur Gross-Matos to a two-year, $18 million deal.

The former profiles more as a pass rusher, while the latter, at 26, is a reliable, athletic presence who could help more in the run game.

Brian Baldinger joined The Morning Roast Tuesday and raved about the Floyd signing.

"I mean it's a big upgrade over Clelin Ferrell and Chase Young," Baldinger said. "It's been a while since they had a guy that could really win one-on-ones and keep the quarterback hurried and affect the quarterback. I mean he's a rangy guy he's won in the postseason. He's a guy that you got to pay attention to. So I think it's a big upgrade over what they put out there on the field a year ago."

He continued to rave about how well-rounded Floyd is when asked whether he's capable in the run game. He said he absolutely is.

"He's got length and range and knows how play off blocks and you're not going to win a championship like he did with the Rams if you can't do a lot of those things," Baldinger said. "You can't get that far into the postseason and not get exposed if you're not good at that.

"I think he's been an every-down player since he got in the league and he's been really consistent. You could look at the sack numbers, they say one story, but you're not rushing the passer unless you're able to get in a position to rush the passer. So I think he's an upgrade on every level over what they put on the field a year ago."

He was less rosy about Gross-Matos, but said it's a signing that improves the 49ers' defensive end rotation. He sees him as someone who plays hard and can play 20-to-30 snaps.
