According to a Nextdoor post from the Marin County Sheriff’s Office , the teen was last seen Sunday at 10 p.m. in Bolinas, Ca. and they were discovered missing at 8:30 a.m. Monday. Authorities believe they headed to San Francisco after running away.

“Mint has brown/reddish curly hair and their eyebrows are pierced,” said the sheriff’s office. “They were last seen wearing a black sweatshirt, flannel pajama pants, and black boots. They possibly had a gray suitcase with them. Mint is approximately 5’0” tall and 100 lbs.”

They are the child of Butterfield and Caterina Fake , who co-founded the photo sharing app Flickr together. It started as a feature included in a never-launched video game the couple worked on, according to Cracked .

Butterfield, 51, and Fake, 54, have since parted ways. Fake has co-founded Hunch and worked for other online companies such as Yahoo!, Etsy, Salon and more . Butterfield perused another video game called Glitch that eventually resulted in the creation of Slack, a commonly used messaging app for businesses. As of Thursday, he’s worth $1.6 billion, according to Forbes .

Fake and her partner entrepreneur Jyri Engestrom of Yes VC have three children who they have homeschooled, said a report in Wired . During the COVID-19 pandemic, Butterfield moved from California to Colorado with his wife, Away luggage startup founder Jen Rubio. In a 2021 interview with The Washington Post , he said that he was able to go skiing 76 days the prior season thanks to the move. Salesforce bought Slack for $27.7 billion in 2021 and Butterfield left the company in 2022.

Fake and Butterfield did not respond to messages about their child’s disappearance, nor did the San Francisco Police Department according to the San Francisco Standard . Per that outlet, officials said Mint Butterfield has a San Francisco address, a history of substance abuse and is known to frequent the Tenderloin.

Journalist Yashar Ali posted on X Tuesday that his friend’s child had gone missing along with a missing persons poster for Mint.

“I don’t ask for your help often, but I need it now…my friend’s 16-year-old has gone missing. Please spread this far and wide, and if you have any information about their whereabouts, call the number on this flyer,” he said.

San Francisco Supervisor Matt Doresy also shared the post .

“This is a missing child whom we now believe to be in or around the Tenderloin neighborhood here in San Francisco,” he said. The San Francisco Standard said that Dorsey did not return a voicemail.
