Merchant Roots , a boutique fine-dining restaurant “known for its artistic and experiential tasting menus designed around a specific and immersive theme,” plans to relocate in August.

According to a press release shared with What Now San Francisco , the concept is leaving behind its Fillmore Street spot and moving to 1148 Mission Street — taking over “a 4,500 square-foot space… that formerly housed Charles Phan’s short-lived Coachman restaurant, as well as the expanded version of City Beer Store” — near establishments such as Hotel Fiona, Sizzling Pot King, and Square Pie Guys.

“This is not only a physical move,” the concept’s owner, Ryan Shelton , shares — “It gives us the resources to imagine and execute with a greater level of creativity and create an even more engaging and innovative dining experience.”

“For Merchant Roots’ first menu theme served in its new home,” slated to open in 2025, “Shelton and chef de cuisine Chris King will present Color Theory , an 11-course menu that explores the meaning and nuances of pink, white, green, orange, blue, yellow, brown, red, violet, and black,” the release discloses.
