The 49ers didn't draft a tackle, but they're adding some insurance there in the late free agency window. According to multiple reports , San Francisco is signing veteran offensive tackle Chris Hubbard, most recently of the Tennessee Titans.

Hubbard is a 10-year veteran in the league, which is no easy feat, regardless of name recognition. He went undrafted in 2014, starting out as a guard, then moving to tackle. He spent the first five years of his career in Pittsburgh, then the next four in Cleveland, signing a five-year $36.5 million deal (which was eventually renegotiated) before signing in Tennessee.

He started nine games for the Titans last season before tearing his biceps and missing the rest of the season.

Hubbard's had an up-and-down career, with two rough first seasons mostly at guard, before three good ones at tackle in Pittsburgh. He had a poor first year in Cleveland in 2019, a resurgent one in 2020, then rarely saw the field for the next two seasons after missing the start of 2021 with a triceps injury.

He offers immediate, solid tackle depth at a position that was in need of it. He'll be competing with fellow veteran tackle Brandon Parker, along with Jaylon Moore, who is already penciled in as the likely first tackle off the bench, though more familiar on the left side than right.
