The Warriors are in a tricky spot. They have a stated goal of making substantial moves, while simultaneously aiming to cut costs. That's a precarious needle to try and thread.

With that task in mind, Tim Kawakami of The Athletic and the Audacy podcast the TK Show joined Willard and Dibs Wednesday afternoon. Kawakami took stock of what the Warriors are facing, and what realistic options they have.

Because the Warriors have limited cap flexibility and want to, at minimum, get under the second luxury tax apron - and maybe the luxury tax itself - Kawakami doesn't believe Golden State will make a move for a star like Paul George or LeBron James.

The one big name Kawakami thinks the Warriors could get? Brandon Ingram. He also mentioned Jarrett Allen in that tier. But it would be costly.

"So then you're looking at, I think Brandon Ingram is like the best player that might be gettable," Kawakami said. "What that likelihood is? It depends a lot on what New Orleans is looking for. It depends on how you value Jonathan Kuminga, how you value the Warriors' 2026 and 2028 first-round picks. Those are the two that they can trade."

Kawakami said those picks could be incredibly valuable if the Warriors have a downturn, especially as Stephen Curry gets older. They may not want to make a deal like that.

"Now they don't want to trade Kuminga," Kawakami said. "I think that would have to if they're gonna get anybody of that caliber, so then you have to weigh that. But if you're trying to figure out like the biggest impact I'd say it'd be on that level would be on a Jarrett Allen, it'd be on Brandon Ingram level. Beyond that, I think it's much more realistic or reasonable if they really don't want to give up Kuminga, you're looking at guys like Bruce Brown."

The most realistic option the Warriors have is targeting a couple mid-level guys. The importance of players they got for cheap in the past, like Otto Porter Jr., and David West, could provide a similar mold for them to follow.
