A state court in San Francisco convicted on Friday the man who struck longtime San Francisco Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi’s husband in the head with a hammer at their Pacific Heights home.

The jury found David DePape, 44, guilty on charges of aggravated kidnapping, burglary, false imprisonment of an elder and threatening a family member of a public official. The jury began deliberating the case Tuesday and reached its verdict late Friday afternoon.

DePape was convicted last year by a federal court and sentenced last month in connection with the October 2022 attack against Paul Pelosi. He was sentenced to 20 years in prison for the attempted kidnapping of a federal official and 30 years for assault on the immediate family member of a federal official with intent to retaliate against the official for the performance of their duties.

A federal judge ordered DePape to serve the sentences concurrently, with credit for the 18 months already spent in federal custody. But DePape’s federal sentencing was reset a day after when the judge realized the defendant hadn’t been given a chance to speak during his sentencing hearing, which was described as a “clear error” in court filings.

It remains unclear, as of press time, whether DePape will serve his state sentence concurrently with his 30-year federal sentence or after its completion.

This is a developing story that will be updated.
