Anthony Slater: Klay Thompson talks with Warriors 'frozen'

If you hadn't already, it's time to brace yourself for the possibility that Klay Thompson will leave the Golden State Warriors. The latest report from Anthony Slater is not an optimistic one.

In his latest piece for The Athletic ( which you can find here ), Slater reported that there are no ongoing negotiations between Thompson and the Warriors. As he puts it:

"Talks are essentially frozen. With free agency now less than 10 days away, Thompson's exit from the only franchise he has ever known feels closer and more probable than ever before."

He goes on to say the Warriors are looking for "larger-scale upgrades" that would involve Chris Paul's non-guaranteed $30 million final year, which would delay any offer to Thompson. He also suggests that Thompson might not have as robust a market as he expects, and the Warriors could get him for a bargain, and even says, "there has been no traction between Thompson and the Orlando Magic."

But even if the Warriors make a competitive offer, Slater reports that Thompson could decide to leave "regardless."

Slater also reports that the Warriors plan to allow Kevon Looney's $8 million year guarantee the outstanding $5 million in non-guaranteed money on Monday.
