A modern home set atop the highest residential point in San Francisco made headlines when it landed on the market in 2020 for $22 million. At 900 feet above sea level, the four-story pad’s bold, boxy façade is poised to take advantage of the epic views of local landmarks such as the Golden Gate Bridge and Alcatraz Island. The local firm John Maniscalco Architecture designed the extraordinary build, which is now on the market for a smidgen under $20 million, $2.1 million less than its original asking price.
The six-bedroom home at 150 Glenbrook Avenue was built at the peak of the Clarendon Heights neighborhood and, as such, claims some of the best views in a city known for its jaw-dropping views. Six full bathrooms and two powder rooms are spread across its 7,440 square feet of living space. In addition to its multiple terraces with their panoramic vistas over the city and bay, a few of the home’s other notable amenities include two gourmet kitchens, an outdoor spa, and a guest suite with a private entrance. Terra Ferma Landscapes Design is responsible for the manicured grounds.
The primary bedroom hovers above the city with views that extend to the horizon.
Contrasting wood and concrete materials complement the home’s Jenga-like façade, which prioritizes clean lines. Gob-smacking horizon views punctuate the home’s interiors, making the airy, open-plan living areas and the primary bedroom appear larger-than-life. The living room features a lava-stone fireplace next to a dining area and floor-to-ceiling sliding doors that open to the fresh air. Nearby stands the gourmet main kitchen with a massive marble island, breakfast nook, and modern appliances, including a double wine fridge.
The central staircase spans all levels below a huge skylight with a hanging installation that adds to the allure of moving through the home. On the upper level, you’ll find the primary suite, with a wood-clad ceiling and knockout views of the cityscape. Its en-suite bathroom includes dual sinks, a soaking tub, and a glass door shower with waterfall fixtures. Three other upstairs bedrooms feature en-suite baths as well.
Aside from the downstairs office/studio, an informal entertainment space part of the home offers access to a 300-plus wine bottle room, wet bar, and spa room with a sauna. For more good times, the owner and guests can take in views of San Fran on the covered patio around a fire pit or in the stainless-steel spa. The landscaped garden on ground level is an ideal place for finding your Zen. Frank Nolan of The Nolan Group at Vanguard Properties holds the listing.
