A key public transit connector between The City and the East Bay was down all of Wednesday.

Service on BART’s red line, which runs through San Francisco between Richmond and ends Millbrae, was suspended for all of Wednesday after one of the transit agency’s maintenance vehicles was derailed near the 19th Street station in Oakland and blocked a set of tracks early in the morning.

There were no injuries from the derailment, which BART announced just after 6 a.m, and officials haven’t disclosed what caused the accident.

All stations are open, but the red line is expected remain inactive until at least Thursday, BART spokesperson Chris Filippi told The Examiner. Fillipi said the rail line anticipates the route being restored in time for Thursday’s morning commute.

There are no major delays due to the closure.

Riders going from Richmond to The City should take an orange line Berryessa train and transfer to a yellow line San Francisco train at MacArthur station. Orange line trains from Richmond will divert to West Oakland after 12th Street before turning back towards the Berryessa direction.

BART encouraged riders to check its app and website for updates on its schedule throughout the day.
