This weekend is shaping up to be a busy one for San Francisco as Pride events are set to take over many of the city's roads.

Why it matters: Traffic is going to be tough to navigate. Expect a lot of it from both cars and pedestrians.

State of play: The city is home to one of the largest LGBTQ+ celebrations in the world, with over 1 million people expected to attend events over the weekend, according to the San Francisco Chronicle .

What to know: The Pride parade starts at 10:30am Sunday and will travel southwest down Market Street from Beale Street to Civic Center, where the accompanying festival will take place.

    • As a result, Market will be closed between Beale and 9th Street for a major chunk of Sunday. A full list of street closures can be found here .
    • During the weekend, the Civic Center will host several events ranging from block parties with musical performances to cannabis-centered options.

How to navigate: Muni bus routes will be rerouted to nearby roads, with Mission Street reserved for buses only during the parade, according to the Chronicle.

    • BART says it will offer its "most robust service ever" for the parade. Starting at 8am, it will run five-line service with trains every five minutes through downtown.
    • The agency will also offer additional event trains as needed, and three-line service after 9pm.

By the numbers: In 2023, BART says it handled more than 140,000 trips during the expanded Pride service. That was good for 117% of pre-pandemic ridership for a June Sunday.

The bottom line: You might want to ditch your car if you're moving around the city this weekend.
