Klay Thompson is heading to the NBA runners-up Dallas Mavericks, according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

According Wojnarowski, Thompson, the four-time champion, will sign a three-year, $50 million deal with a player option. It will be part of a three-team sign-and-trade deal that will send Josh Green to the Charlotte Hornets.

Other reports, however, suggest that no deal has been concluded. The Athletic's Anthony Slater reports that the Warriors have not agreed to any deal and while it "could still happen," negotiations need to continue.

UPDATE: The deal, according to Wojnarowski, has been accepted. The Warriors will receive a pair of second-round picks from the Mavericks, including Dallas' 2031 second-round pick.

Wojnarowski continued in his initial report to state that Thompson received four-year offers for more money, "but taking less was offset by the chance to win a fifth championship with the Mavs and difference in state taxes."

This comes after a tumultuous season which began with Thompson being offered a two-year, $48 million deal with the Warriors that he turned down, and saw him come off the bench for the first time since his rookie year. In this move, Thompson has taken a deal that averages $16.7 million per season, instead of $24 million per season, to leave Golden State.

It was reported Saturday by The Athletic that Thompson would likely not return to the Warriors. From there, Golden State reportedly started working on sign-and-trade alternatives with suitors to get Thompson the most money and provide a return for the Warriors.

Now, Thompson leaves the team he has spent the past 13 years with in order to find a fresh start. It is an historic tenure ended, one which featured four titles, five All-Star appearances, and two All-NBA teams.

Thompson is coming off a season averaging 17.9 points per game on 43.2 percent shooting and 38.7 percent from 3-pont range. He came off the bench for the first time since his rookie season.

His defense has deteriorated after back-to-back ACL And Achilles tears, but Thompson's wing shooting still provides a consistent threat. As of yet, the terms of the trade have not been reported. This story will be updated when those details are made available.
