Warriors Make Major Announcement On Klay Thompson Tribute After Exit

On Monday, former Golden State Warriors star Klay Thompson agreed to sign with the Dallas Mavericks on a three-year, $50-million deal as part of a sign-and-trade. The Mavericks sent the Warriors two second-round picks in return.

A few hours after the news broke, the Warriors' public relations department released an official statement regarding Thompson's departure. The statement came with a major announcement: the Warriors will retire Thompson's jersey in the future.

"Klay's legacy will live on forever, and we look forward to the day we can retire his #11 jersey at Chase Center, where he will join a host of Warriors immortals, including those who helped shape this recent dynasty—himself included."

Thompson, along with Stephen Curry and Draymond Green, helped bring Golden State four NBA titles, creating a dynasty that will be remembered for a long time. With his departure, many questions remain regarding the Warriors current roster. Will they try to add a star to team up with Curry and Green for one last championship run? Or will they blow it all up and officially end the dynasty?

Throughout his Warriors tenure, Thompson averaged 19.6 points on 41.3% from three, 3.5 rebounds, and 2.3 assists. He and Curry earned the nickname "Splash Brothers" during their run together. Thompson will join the NBA runner-up Mavericks in hopes of another ring.
