Klay Thompson 's incredible 13-year run with the Golden State Warriors ended on Monday after he joined the Dallas Mavericks on a three-year deal reportedly worth $50 million. As pall and gloom descended over the Bay Area over the departure of the beloved sharpshooter who, alongside Stephen Curry and Draymond Green, elevated the Warriors to unparalleled heights, the organization took time to show its appreciation toward Thompson.

In a statement, the team expressed its desire to retire his number 11 jersey one day high above the rafters of the Chase Center.

    Legacy will live on forever

Thompson arrived in Golden State when the Warriors selected him 11th overall in the 2011 NBA Draft. After a tepid start, he soon became one of the most lethal shooters in league history, earning five All-Star and two All-NBA selections.

Klay's journey from a promising rookie to a seasoned veteran, his growth as a player, and his role in changing the team's culture, bringing a winning mentality and an unselfish approach to the game, are all part of the legacy he leaves behind.

Thompson's impact was immeasurable on both ends of the court. He consistently locked down some of the best perimeter players while providing a constant threat from beyond the arc. The sharpshooter played a crucial role in all four of the Warriors' championship runs, hitting big shots and providing clutch defense in key moments.

"The amount of joy and happiness that Klay provided Warriors fans, Bay Area natives, and Dub Nation supporters all around the world has been immense and cannot be minimized," the Warriors' statement read .

From his Game 6 heroics, especially in the 2016 Western Conference Finals, when he scored 41 points to lead the Dubs to a scintillating 108-101 victory that tied the series against the Oklahoma City Thunder up at 3-3, to his unforgettable 37-point third-quarter explosion against the Sacramento Kings in a 126-101 win in 2015, Klay has been a constant source of joy and excitement for the Warriors and their fans.

    Jersey retirement soon

Klay and the Warriors are going their separate ways, but the organization is looking forward to the day they'll meet with the Washington State product to retire his jersey at the Chase Center. The anticipation for this event is palpable, and it's sure to be a momentous occasion for the team and its fans.

"Klay's legacy will live on forever and we look forward to the day we can retire his #11 jersey at Chase Center, where he will join a host of Warriors immortals, including those who helped shape this recent dynasty—himself included," the statement continued. "We thank Klay for his contributions and wish him the best as another chapter in his journey is written."

Despite going through an underwhelming season, Klay still has plenty of gas left in the tank, which he hopes to use to spark the Mavericks on another deep postseason run. With Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving commanding tons of defensive attention, Thompson will have plenty of opportunities to showcase his sharpshooting skills and help lead the Mavs to a championship.
