Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green.

In the lead-up to Paul George inking a four-year max deal with the Philadelphia 76ers, there were reports of the Golden State Warriors pursuing the star forward . The cap-strapped Warriors needed George to opt in to the final year of his contract with the Clippers and seek a trade to the Bay Area. In other words, the Clippers had to cooperate to facilitate George's move to their division rival.

According to Draymond Green, George was on board to join the Warriors until the Clippers front office nixed the deal at the last minute.

"A little salty about that," Green said on "The Draymond Green Show" about George joining the Sixers. "Paul George was going to come to the Warriors. We wanted him...the Clippers didn't want to play ball. They didn't want to help him get to where he wanted to go. In turn, they get nothing back [lost George for nothing to Philadelphia]."

Green said he "understood" the Clippers' thought process since they didn't want to aid a division rival.

The Warriors star's comments validated the reporting from ESPN's Ramona Shelburne , who recently noted that Golden State offered "multiple combinations of expiring contracts, young players and an unprotected 2027 first-round pick" to the Clippers for George. When the Clippers countered by asking for Jonathan Kuminga, the Warriors reportedly "resisted" moving the 21-year-old and ended their dialogue.

After striking out on George and losing Klay Thompson, the Warriors signed De'Anthony Melton and Kyle Anderson. The franchise is pursuing Jazz All-Star Lauri Markkanen , per multiple reports.
