SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — A woman was rescued from the San Francisco Bay near Pier 9 after she jumped into the water during a heat wave Wednesday afternoon .

Witnesses by The Waterfront Restaurant on the Embarcadero called 911 reporting that a woman had “jumped into the water … and was swimming near the pylons,” a San Francisco Fire Department spokesperson told KRON4.

The woman donned street clothes, and was not wearing swimming attire. Temperatures were hovering in the high 70s at the time.

Rescuers from a nearby SFFD station used a rescue boat to reach the woman and pull her out of the water around 1 p.m. Paramedics evaluated her for possible injuries at the scene.

The Pier 9 rescue was the second water rescue along the Embarcadero Wednesday. Around 6 a.m., a woman was found in the bay and “screaming for help” by Pier 39 . She continued struggling to stay afloat until emergency crews rescued her. SFFD medics took the victim to a local hospital to be treated for “non-life-threatening issues,” officials said.
