Monte Poole: Lauri Markkanen Warriors' 'No. 1 target'

So far this offseason, the Warriors have lost Klay Thompson and Chris Paul. Elsewhere, they have signed De'Anthony Melton, plan to sign-and-trade for Kyle Anderson on a three-year, $27 million deal, and are working on a sign-and-trade for Buddy Hield.

They also have brought in deep depth wing Lindy Waters III, second-round shooting center prospect Quinten Post and two-way guard Reece Beekman. But is that enough to consider them improved? Probably not.

NBC Sports' Monte Poole joined Steiny and Guru Tuesday to discuss the offseason and where it might go from here. Specifically, he said Utah Jazz forward Lauri Markkanen, on the final year of a deal that will pay him roughly $18 million this season, is the team's top option.

"Based on all I've heard so far, their No. 1 target is Lauri Markkanen," Poole said. "He's the No. 1 target because Paul George went off the table on Saturday. They had everything lined up for Paul George and they got close, but it didn't happen. And once that was gone, the Warriors were like, ok we have to scramble now, what are we gonna do?

"Markkanen is a guy that he's that beautiful stretch four. The Warriors are a short team. Yeah, they led the league in rebounding, but they're still a short team. Markkanen is a guy you can plug right in and he can play three or four. He ain't gonna be a great rim protector even though he's seven feet, but he's a presence. And if you've got a seven-footer who can get buckets, and he can - a 40 percent shooter from three - that's big in this league."
