Klay Thompson sent Golden State Warriors fans a rather tear-jerking goodbye post on Friday as he moves on in his career and joins the Dallas Mavericks. Aside from the heartbreaking nature of the farewell, though, one thing that particularly stood out in the message was what Thompson called himself in the end.

Before he signed off, Thompson referred to himself as "Sea captain."

"My family and I would like to thank all of the amazing people who work tirelessly to make the Warriors organization world-class. Don’t be sad it’s over, be happy it happened. Until we meet again. Sea captain out," Thompson wrote on Instagram to end his message to Warriors fans.

Those who have followed Klay Thompson and the Warrior faithfully know what the sharpshooter is referring to with that new nickname he gave himself.

Thompson's love for boats is well known around the NBA, and in the past--especially when he's recovering from injuries from 2019 to 2021--he often streamed live from his boat.

As a result of his love for boating, Thompson has been often called "Captain Klay." Now, fans can also refer to him as Sea captain.

Sure enough, as Sea captain, Mavericks fans are hoping that Thompson will be able to bring that splash he's known for to Texas.
