Klay Thompson took to Instagram to show his love and respect for the Golden State Warriors franchise, as he is set to leave them for the Dallas Mavericks . Thompson thanked the fanbase and the Bay Area for all the support they have given him for years, and the franchise for everything they have done for him.

"Oh Bay Area, there are not enough words and images to convey how I really feel about y'all. From the bottom of my heart, thank you so much for the best times of my life. It was such an honor to put that Dubs jersey on from day 1."

"I really just wanted to be the best I could be and help bring as many championships as possible to the region. The best part was not the rings though, it was the friendships I made that will last a lifetime. My family and I would like to thank all of the amazing people who work tirelessly to make the Warriors organization world-class. Don’t be sad it’s over, be happy it happened. Until we meet again. Sea captain out."

It has been an emotional and turbulent few years for Klay Thompson with the Warriors. He sustained a major ACL injury during the 2019 NBA Finals, which kept him out of action for a year. When he was getting ready to make a return in 2020, he suffered an Achilles tear that kept him out of action for yet another year.

Upon returning in late 2021, it was clear that Thompson wasn't the player he once was. He still played a key role for the Warriors in their 2022 championship run. But since then, declining performance, along with reported attitude problems led to his relationship with the Warriors declining, and him choosing to leave.

Klay Thompson Unhappy With Jordan Poole And Andrew Wiggins' Extensions

In a recent report about Klay Thompson's exit by Ramona Shelburne and Kendra Andrews of ESPN, it was reported that both he and Draymond Green were upset by the Warriors offering big-money extensions to Jordan Poole and Andrew Wiggins after they won the 2022 NBA championship.

"When he returned in 2022, up-and-coming guard Jordan Poole moved back to a bench role so [Klay] Thompson could start. But Poole's mere presence -- and contract situation -- undercut Thompson's role on the team."

"The Warriors prioritized extending Poole -- for four years and $140 million -- and young swingman Andrew Wiggins (four years, $109 million) over Thompson and [Draymond] Green the summer after they won a championship, which didn't sit well with either of the two veterans, sources said."

Thompson hoped to stay with the Warriors, even willing to take $40 million over two years , which the Warriors rejected. It was reported that he had been miserable in his final year with Golden State , but still wanted to salvage the relationship.

Thompson will be taking his talents to the Mavericks next season. Thompson averaged 17.9 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 2.3 assists last season, and played 77 games. While no longer an All-Star or All-Defensive player, Thompson will add great value to the Mavericks next year, as they look to return to the NBA Finals.
