Klay Thompson finally acknowledged his Warriors departure on Friday and it came in the form of a long and emotional message on his Instagram . In the comments, among the thousands of people, Kevin Durant had a moment of sincerity as he wished the best for his former teammate.

"A Bay Area God," wrote Durant. "One chapter closes, another one opens. Keep doing you champ."

A wave of statements were made for Thompson after the news of his breakup with the Warriors. The fans were crushed and both Draymond and Curry were devastated but 2x champion Kevin Durant took a more optimistic tone with his words.

Durant, a former MVP, was once teammates with Klay, Steph, and Draymond Green. In fact, he was the main catalyst behind their championships in 2017 and 2018. But as one who also left behind the Warriors, Durant knows what it's like to betray a franchise widely considered to be "paradise." And while he has not been back to the Finals since his departure, he would say that he's thrived from under the shadow of Curry with multiple MVP-level seasons on a competitive team.

As for Durant and Thompson, they were teammates for three years on the Warriors, when they won two straight championships as one of the greatest modern-day dynasties ever. Of course, Durant would end up leaving in the following summer, but he remains on good terms with Klay who treats all of his championship teammates as his family.

The 6'6" guard will forever be known as one-half of the Splash Bros. His 11-year run with Stephen Curry remains one of the greatest stretches by any duo in history and it changed the NBA forever.

After winning four titles with the Warriors and bringing historic levels of recognition to the franchise, Klay thought he'd be a Warrior for life. To this day, many fans still believe the franchise owes him a great debt and that they owe it to him to keep him around for as long as possible. Clearly, Joe Lacob and GM Mike Dunleavy Jr. felt differently.

Unfortunately, after a series of injuries initiated his slow decline, Thompson could no longer capture the same magic as before. As his play waned, so did the Warriors' effectiveness on the floor and it eventually climaxed last season with Thompson being described as "miserable" with his fading role.

Thompson left the Warriors after they failed to meet his terms on a new contract and it marks the end of a truly magnificent era for everyone involved. Now, Klay (34) will start a new journey on the Dallas Mavericks alongside Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving.

It remains to be seen how this latest venture will turn out but it will be uncharted territory for the 5x All-Star. For the first time in his career, Klay will no longer be a Warrior and he'll find out first-hand just how much different it is.
