All five albums by the Lijadu Sisters—the trailblazing Nigerian duo of twins Yeye Taiwo Lijadu and the late Kehinde Lijadu—are getting the reissue treatment via Numero Group. The slate of reissues kicks off with a remastered edition of their final album, 1979’s Horizon Unlimited, which includes the Lijadu Sisters’ sun-drenched hit, “Come on Home.” On September 20, Numero Group will release the album on LP and CD, along with the first-ever transcription of the record’s lyrics in Yoruba and English, corrected album credits, and more.

Cass McCombs has announced a short North American tour for this September, kicking off shortly after a set of three reissues. Early EP Not the Way and the albums A and Prefection will get digital, vinyl, and CD reissues on September 6, from 4AD, with a cassette called 2000-2004 Demos, Live and Radio coming, via Orindal, the same day. Kinky Friedman, the tongue-in-cheek humorist and alt-country musician of the Texas Jewboys, has died, bandmate Little Jewford confirmed to The New York Times. “Kinky Friedman stepped on a rainbow at his beloved Echo Hill surrounded by family & friends,” reads a statement posted to the late artist’s social media. “Kinkster endured tremendous pain & unthinkable loss in recent years but he never lost his fighting spirit and quick wit. Kinky will live on as his books are read and his songs are sung.” Friedman was 79.

In 2022, DaBaby was charged with felony battery and accused of sucker-punching a Los Angeles County rental property owner during an unauthorized music video shoot. The rapper has now agreed to plead guilty to misdemeanor simple battery, TMZ reports and Pitchfork can confirm. As a result of the plea deal, DaBaby has also been sentenced to one day in a Los Angeles County jail (which he has served), given a year of probation, and ordered to pay $10,000 in restitution to the victim.

The racketeering and gang conspiracy trial against Young Thug and five associates in Atlanta, Georgia—already the longest criminal trial in Georgia history at 18 months, with more days to follow—has been paused indefinitely due to alleged misconduct by Fulton County Superior Court Judge Ural Glanville, reports The Washington Post. Earlier today, Judge Glanville announced that the case would not proceed until another judge decides whether he should recuse himself from overseeing the trial. This follows accusations from defense attorneys claiming that Judge Glanville held a secret meeting with prosecutors and key witness Kenneth Copeland to pressure him to testify, which the attorneys argue was improper and unconstitutional.
