Bay Area sports roundup: Giants, Warriors roster moves plus MLB All-Star game

    By Megan Rose Dickey,

The San Francisco Giants have parted ways with outfielder Austin Slater, the team's longest-tenured player.

State of play: The Giants traded Slater and cash to the Cincinnati Reds in exchange for left-handed relief pitcher Alex Young over the weekend, The Athletic reports .

    • This will be Young's second time as a Giant. He last played for the team in 2022, when he posted a 2.39 ERA across 24 appearances on the mound.

What's next: Don't miss Logan Webb and Heliot Ramos representing San Francisco at the 2024 All-Star Game next Tuesday in Arlington, Texas.

    • Ramos, who stepped up this season as the team has dealt with various injuries, is the first homegrown Giants outfielder to make the All-Star game since 1986, when Chili Davis was selected.
    • First pitch for the Midsummer Classic is set for 5pm PT.

Curry, Kerr prepare for the Olympics with Klay on their minds

Warriors guard Stephen Curry and head coach Steve Kerr are both in Las Vegas prepping for the Olympics, but newly departed Klay Thompson is still top of mind.

What they're saying: "There's no bitterness," Curry told The Athletic at Team USA's training camp. "There's no ill will or anything. I just want him to be happy and have a good time playing basketball like he deserves."

    • "I haven't ever had fantasies that this thing would just go on for another five, six years and Steph, Klay and [Draymond Green] would retire together and I would retire with them," Kerr said after Team USA's first practice.
    • "There's never been that thought. I've been around the league for a long time, whether it's Chicago or other situations. It's never easy when these things start to run out."

Between the lines: While Olympic prep ramps up, the NBA offseason is still in full swing.

What to watch: Whether the Dubs can add another star to play alongside Curry.
