SAN FRANCISCO ( KRON ) — A suspect who San Francisco police say assaulted a cognitively impaired person was caught on video appearing to try and menace a driverless Waymo vehicle. Officers with the San Francisco Police Department were flagged down at around 1 a.m. on July 5 in the 2300 block of Buchanan Street on a report of a person down.

The victim, a man, was suffering from life-threatening injuries, including a fractured skull, police said. Officers rendered aid and the victim was taken to the hospital. The victim provided officers with a video he took of the incident.

The video (watch in the player above) shows the male suspect blocking a driverless Waymo vehicle while shouting and appearing to try and menace the autonomous taxi. The Waymo, police said, was occupied by a passenger that the victim spoke to.

The passenger has not been identified.

After several moments, police said that the victim told the suspect he should probably let the car leave. At that point, the suspect moved away from the Waymo and lunged at the victim, causing him to fall. The suspect lunged a second time, causing the victim to fall again. At that point, police said, the suspect assaulted the victim.

The victim is visibly disabled according to police, and his family stated that he is cognitively impaired.
