Bills might have to go to war with AFC East foe if they want to trade for WR Brandon Aiyuk

It turns out San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk has officially requested a trade ahead of the upcoming NFL season. Naturally, the Buffalo Bills are considered a prime candidate to get in the mix due to their lack of a proven No. 1 wide receiver.

Going into training camp, the Bills are considered a top AFC contender but one of the biggest question marks lies at exactly that position having moved on from Stefon Diggs earlier in the year. Pulling off a trade for Aiyuk could be a game-changer for their Super Bowl chances.

Of course, achieving such a transaction is easier said than done, especially for a team like the Bills who have taken on a path of rebuilding the team and having a financial reset this year.

Bills might have AFC East competition for Aiyuk

Keep in mind, if Bills GM Brandon Beane plans to throw his hat in the ring in pursuit of Aiyuk's talents, he'll have to outbid other franchises on what could become the most important sweepstakes prior to this year's kickoff.

That could likely include one AFC East foe, based on a recent report from NFL insider Josina Anderson, who revealed the New England Patriots have made contact with the Niners inquiring about Aiyuk's availability.

As Anderson clarifies in the post above, the Patriots were told Aiyuk "was not being traded at the time." But things change quickly in this league and a lot can happen in two weeks.

According to NFL Network's Mike Garafolo , the sides had "a recent meeting," before Aiyuk "respectfully asked out."

Despite the Niners receiver wanting out of the Bay, the Bills would likely need to pay a hefty price tag to land his services. Fans would be wise to temper expectations given the recent trajectory the front office has adopted.
