SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) – Elon Musk says the downtown San Francisco headquarters of X, formerly Twitter, is moving to Austin, Texas, according to a post from the billionaire entrepreneur Tuesday afternoon.

Musk’s post on X came in a thread showing his distaste for California’s future direction.

Musk added his other company, SpaceX, will move its Hawthorne (Los Angeles County) headquarters to Starbase, Texas.

“This is the final straw,” Musk said in reference to a tweet about Gov. Gavin Newsom signing AB 1955 about transgender children. “Because of this law and the many others that preceded it, attacking both families and companies, SpaceX will now move its HQ from Hawthorne, California, to Starbase, Texas.”

AB 1955 is a new California law barring school districts from requiring that parents be notified of their child’s gender identification change.

Musk’s announcement also comes a few days after X reportedly planned to sublease its nearly 800,000-square-foot building at 1335 Market St. The Tesla CEO’s decision doesn’t come as much of a surprise as Musk has hinted in the past of moving X’s headquarters out of San Francisco.

“Have had enough of dodging gangs of violent drug addicts just to get in and out of the building,” Musk posted in a subsequent tweet, appearing to reference an ongoing issue in downtown San Francisco.

Musk’s tweet on his announcement that X will move to Texas has since garnered more than 1.7 million views.
