“That would put the Warriors back in the thick of things” – Kendrick Perkins proposes a trade idea that could elevate the Dubs back into contention

The Golden State Warriors have been searching for a player who could provide their longtime superstar, Stephen Curry , with much-needed support on the court. After a disappointing season that saw them miss the NBA Playoffs and an equally disheartening offseason wherein longtime sentinel Klay Thompson walked away from the Bay Area and headed to Dallas, ESPN commentator Kendrick Perkins has a trade idea that may cure the Warriors’ ills.

    Brandon Ingram to the Warriors

The Dubs desperately need someone to provide the team with some offensive firepower outside of the “Chef.” While Steph tried to admirably carry the bulk of his team’s offensive load by averaging 26.4 points and 5.1 assists, he couldn’t do it by himself. This was never more evident than in the play-in game versus Sacramento when Curry tallied 22, but his “Splash Brother” went scoreless, missing all ten of his attempts.

According to Perk , the Dubs must capitalize on the discord between Brandon Ingram and his team, the New Orleans Pelicans. With the two parties at a stalemate regarding a contract extension, the Warriors front office could try to swoop in and nab the one-time All-Star.

“I would like to see Brandon Ingram, because we know that the Pelicans are listening to offers, go to the Golden State Warriors. I think Brandon Ingram, alongside Draymond Green and Steph Curry, would not only do wonders for him but also for the Golden State Warriors,” Perkins said on “NBA Today.”

The long-limbed, 6-foot-8 forward would undoubtedly give the Dubs the firepower it needs to compete with the West’s best. Since arriving in New Orleans, the former Duke Blue Devil has been a bona fide scorer, averaging 23.1 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 5.2 assists per game in five seasons with the Pelicans.

“He's a bucket-getter at the most important position in the game,” Perk added.

    Contract issues

Ingram has been a player many teams are keeping their eye on, given his rocky contract situation with New Orleans. The talented forward, who was deemed the league’s Most Improved Player in 2020, is eligible to sign a massive contract extension that would pay him $208 million in the next four years. However, New Orleans’ front office has yet to tender that offer with reports saying that both parties are willing to “play it out.”

Perk emphasizes that this is a golden opportunity that the Warriors must not miss. With their pursuit of Lauri Markannen proving unsuccessful, they should turn their attention to Ingram and see if they can convince New Orleans to part ways with him.

“Putting him alongside Steph Curry and Draymond Green would actually put the Warriors, especially in the Western Conference, back in the thick of things,” Kendrick declared.

The potential addition of Ingram to the Warriors could be just what the team needs right now, especially if they want to maximize Chef Curry's remaining prime years.
