SAN FRANCISCO ( KRON ) — An Air India flight to San Francisco was diverted on Thursday due to a technical issue. Air India flight AI-183 operating from New Delhi to San Francisco International Airport had to be diverted to Russia, according to a tweet from the airline.

The plane, which was a Boeing 777-200LR, was diverted to Krasnoyarsk International Airport for what the airline said was a “technical reason.” The aircraft, which took off from Indira Gandhi International Airport at 3:44 p.m., landed safely in Russia.

Air India said it was “working with relevant authorities to ensure guests are taken care of while we decide the next course of action.”

“At Air India, the safety and wellbeing of our customers and crew remains top priority,” the airline added.

Last month, a metal blade was found in a meal served on board another Air India flight bound for SFO.
