SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — San Francisco's largest private employer, Salesforce, is reportedly ordering many of its employees to return to the office.

Employees were sent a memo this week announcing a shift from remote work to hybrid and in-person beginning this fall, the San Francisco Standard reported. The cloud-based software company’s headquarters is located downtown on Mission Street in Salesforce Tower.

When asked about the memo, a Salesforce spokesperson told KRON4 on Thursday, “Salesforce is a place where connection and relationships drive success. We believe being together in person deepens relationships, sparks innovation, fosters learning, and strengthens culture — ultimately, resulting in better business outcomes.”

Salesforce will have three hybrid work designations applied to different departments within the company:

    • Office-Based: Work in-person four to five days per week.
    • Office-Flex: Work in-person three days per week.
    • Remote: Work primarily from home.

The Salesforce spokesperson said, “We have always had a hybrid approach, which provides flexibility to meet the evolving needs of the business, and helps attract and retain world-class, diverse talent. Our hybrid work guidelines focus on in-person connection, while recognizing the value of work away from the office.”

New in-person expectations were set within the same week that Salesforce announced another round of layoffs for hundreds of employees.

“We continuously assess whether we have the right structure in place to best serve our customers and fuel growth areas. In some cases that leads to roles being eliminated,” a Salesforce spokesperson told KRON4.
