The 2024 NFL season will be the first without Bill Belichick in a coaching role in quite some time. The former New England Patriots head coach, and one of the greatest coaches of all time, didn’t get hired this offseason. It was a shock to many, including San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan.

Shanahan joined the Audacy Sports Podcast “The TK Show” and revealed he offered Belichick any job he wanted with the 49ers this offseason.

“I did. I threw it out to him,” Shanahan said of offering Belichick a role with the 49ers. “He loves football so much that you never know what he could want. I can’t believe that he’s not a head coach of a team right now. I know what I would do if I was an owner so that shocks me. And the last thing you want to do is insult someone like Bill Belichick but I know he just loves ball in the simplest form. I threw it all out to him. Whatever he’d want to do.”

Belichick interviewed with the Atlanta Falcons but did not get the job after mutually parting ways with the Patriots. Shanahan also tried to lure Belichick to San Francisco for their defensive coordinator position.

“I was like ‘Would you be interested?’ And he was very nice and appreciative but he politely turned me down.

“But I think he’s helping out his son a little bit. I know he’s involved in Washington up there and trying to help out Jedd Fisch and what he’s doing out there. It could be good too because I’m sure he’s going to be back in the league next year, and I could be going against him. It could be in the NFC West,” Shanahan continued. “So it would’ve sucked if he came here and then he was going against us too. So that’s stuff you got to be careful about but he’s the best and I just like talking to him.”

It may not be long before Belichick is back in the league. Several teams could have interest in bringing him in depending on what happens this season.
