Now that NBA season is over, how will fans be able to watch their favorite player, Golden State Warriors point guard Stephen Curry , in action? Sure, they’ll be able to watch him tear up the court for Team USA in the 2024 Paris Olympics, but what if people want more from one of the GOATs of the sport? Luckily, Peacock has an answer for that. Curry will play himself in the streamer’s upcoming comedy series Mr. Throwback opposite Adam Pally ( Happy Endings ), Ego Nwodim ( SNL ) and Ayden Mayeri ( I Love That For You ). His latest foray in front of the comedy screen—real ones will remember him as Holey Moley ‘s resident golf pro—marks his first scripted television role.

The series centers on Danny Grossman (Pally), a down-on-his-luck memorabilia dealer and former child basketball prodigy, who seeks redemption by reuniting with his sixth-grade teammate, NBA legend Stephen Curry. The trailer starts off with Curry himself speaking directly to the camera: “This is a story about one of the most dominant basketball players of all time.” As images of Curry dominating on the court play, his voiceover continues. “A player so electrifying, so beloved on and off the court, but I’m not talking about me!” Suddenly, a shot of a young Stephen Curry getting his jump shot snuffed by a much taller, more athletic kid plays. “I’m talking about Danny Grossman.” How’s that for a twist?

In the present day, an adult Grossman leaps into adult Curry’s arms after they lost touch, presumedly because Curry’s career skyrocketed. In a sit-down interview, Curry explains their connection to the camera. “Bro, he was the king. We called ourselves the ‘Splash Siblings,'” says Curry enthusiastically. “I was his backup. Danny was so cool. I was his friend.” Have you picked your jaw off the floor yet?

Then, it’s Grossman’s turn in front of the camera. He begins to detail his trip to rockbottom. “The last couple years have just been brutal,” says Grossman, “I only knew one guy with that kind of ass saving powers.” Moved by his story, Curry decides to do a documentary about Grossman’s rise back to the top, with his help, of course. As Grossman gets sucked into Curry’s lavish lifestyle, Curry seemingly reassigns his personal documentary team to follow Grossman around.

After a montage of funny scenes and tantalizing teases of what the rest of the series will entail, the trailer ends with a bang. As Grossman settles down for an interview with a burger and fries, he is ambushed by the producer. “When are you gonna tell Steph the truth about why you’re really here?” A shocked Grossman can only stare back at her, too stunned to speak.

Executive produced by Curry, Pally, David Caspe, Matthew Libman, and Daniel Libman, Mr. Throwback promises to be a can’t miss comedy. The 6-episode series premieres Thursday, August 8th, only on Peacock.
