SAN FRANCISCO ( KRON ) — A man who allegedly shouted anti-LGBTQ slurs at a man in the Mission District and hurled a sign at him has been charged with a hate crime, the San Francisco District Attorney’s Office said. Jeffrey Landon, 58, was arraigned on Thursday and pleaded not guilty while denying all allegations.

According to the DA, Landon was charged with one additional count of assault with a deadly weapon. Landon is alleged to have shouted numerous anti-LGBTQ slurs at a man walking on Harrison Street toward 24th Street. The victim, the DA said, ignored him and continued walking.

Landon then allegedly followed him and continued to shout “obscenities and anti-LGBTQ slurs.” As the victim continued walking away, Landon allegedly picked up an A-frame sign and threw it at him. The sign landed near the victim’s feet, not causing physical injury.

Landon fled the scene and was detained by the San Francisco Police Department, the DA said.

“Hate crimes have no place in San Francisco and will be prosecuted," said District Attorney
Brooke Jenkins. "We are proud of our diversity and will do everything we can to protect the
safety of all our people. Hate crimes deeply impact individual victims and the larger community
by sowing hate, mistrust and division. We will not allow hate to flourish in San Francisco and
    stand for justice."

Landon currently remains in custody and will next appear in court on Aug. 6.

While I don't agree with the speech, simply saying something bad isn't a crime 🙄. it should be dismissed IMMEDIATELY
