Klay Thompson's Golden State Warriors exit took a few fans by surprise. Yes, there were always rumors that Klay wanted out. However, Joe Lacob and the front office were able to make it work with Draymond Green in a similar situation. Fans hoped for a similar outcome.

Alas, it was not meant to be. Thompson did not like the offer the Warriors gave him, and they traded him to the Dallas Mavericks. As it turns out, Thompson told the team pretty early on of his intentions.

Speaking to Tim Kawakami on his podcast, Lacob revealed that Thompson already told them he was leaving pretty early on.

“But you know, to be frank and honest, Klay made the decision prior to the beginning of free agency and he informed us of it that his intention was to not come back," Lacob said.

The Warriors and Thompson were unable to agree to terms on a new contract. Lacob and the front office gave him what they thought was a fair offer. Thompson, looking for more, refused.

In the end, Golden State dealt the star to the Mavericks, where he received his desired contract. It was a painful move for the Warriors, but it had to be done.

Warriors fans are now hoping that Thompson eventually makes his return home and retires here. For now, they are looking forward to getting revenge on him by beating his new team.
