Former major league right-hander Reyes Moronta died Sunday in a reported traffic accident in his native Dominican Republican. He was 31.

The Mexican Baseball League and his former team, the Bravos de Leon, announced his death on X.

Moronta went 10-11 with a 3.05 ERA and three saves in six seasons in the majors, including four with the San Francisco Giants. He flourished with the Giants in 2018 and 2019, going a combined 8-9 with a 2.66 ERA in 125 relief appearances while striking out 149 batters in 121 2/3 innings.

For his career, Moronta had a strikeout average of 10.6 batters per nine innings.

He pitched for the Los Angeles Dodgers and Arizona Diamondbacks in 2022 and appeared in two games in 2023 with the Los Angeles Angels before signing with the Bravos de Leon. He was released last week by the Bravos.
