Braves 'showing interest' in Giants Cy Young winner, could pull off deal

The Atlanta Braves could be on the verge of an enormous trade coming Tuesday.

With mere hours remaining before the deadline, the Braves still have two needs: an outfielder and a starting pitcher.

Atlanta is swinging for the fences on both fronts and trying to snag the best available players on the market. The Braves have had discussions with the White Sox about Garrett Crochet, but Crochet's availability is growing murky.

A more surefire target for Atlanta is Blake Snell of the San Francisco Giants, a two-time Cy Young Award winner. Snell is on the radar of the Braves, among other teams, according to The Athletic's Jim Bowden.

"Many teams, including the Yankees, Orioles, Astros and Braves, are showing interest in Giants starter Blake Snell," Bowden said on Sunday.

The Braves were eight and a half games back in the division entering Tuesday, meaning their playoff hopes rest with the Wild Card. Atlanta held just a half-game lead atop the Wild Card standings entering Tuesday, but the race is uncomfortably crowded.

Adding a talent like Snell to their rotation would provide the Braves with the means to gain separation in the standings and look ahead to a playoff run.
