49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk is continuing to hold in during training camp as he seeks a contract extension. He is scheduled to earn $14.124 million this season on the fifth-year option but wants to be paid among the top receivers in the NFL.

Two weeks ago, the disgruntled receiver requested a trade , which has left his future in San Francisco up in the air, but the team has said it isn't interested in entertaining his request.

That has given fellow wide receiver Deebo Samuel hope that the two sides will reach an agreement sooner rather than later.

"Overall, it's a tough situation," Samuel said , via 49ers Webzone. "You want to be out here with your guys, and want to be out here practicing. But overall, you want what you deserve. So, at the end of the day, something has to give; something has to work out. But I feel like something's gonna happen, hopefully."

Samuel went through a similar scenario in 2022. He requested a trade but ultimately reported to training camp and signed a three-year, $73.5 million contract extension shortly after.

That's why he knows better than anyone what Aiyuk is going through.

"Going through it in [2022], it's just some things you take personal that don't need to be taken personal," Samuel added. "Overall, it's just a stressful process because, at the end of the day, you want what you think you deserve, and your team has to work with this team, and it's so much back-and-forth."

Only time will tell whether Aiyuk and the 49ers can find a compromise, but head coach Kyle Shanahan believes it's beneficial for Aiyuk to be around the team, nonetheless.

"I think it's good when any of these guys have the business part of the contracts going on and everything, I think it's always good to not get too far away from football," Shanahan said. "At least he can be with his teammates here, in meetings, get some work with the strength and conditioning coaches, things like that."

Aiyuk has 269 catches for 3,931 yards and 25 touchdowns since entering the league as the No. 25 overall pick in 2020.
