Observations from the Giants’ training camp practice on Tuesday .

    Picking It Up

Gervarrius Owens, a 2023 seventh-round pick, is in a battle to make the team. He helped himself with a diving, juggling interception off Drew Lock that got the defensive players on the field and on the sideline fired up. Rookie CB Dru Phillips had an interception in the one-on-one drill.

    Slow Going

The word of the day for the offense? Sluggish. This happens sometimes on the second day in full pads. The passing attack was disjointed and the pocket around Daniel Jones was leaky. On one play, Jones tried a quick-hitter to Jalin Hyatt on the left side and the timing was completely off and the ball fell far behind Hyatt’s reach.

Players usually do not engage with the fans during practice, but during one lull, Hyatt hustled over to the fence and gave an autograph to a kid holding a Tennessee jersey. Near the end of practice on a hot day, WR Isaiah McKenzie tossed a bottle of orange Gatorade to a youngster.

    Injury Report

OLB Brian Burns tweaked his ankle on Monday but was able to work in practice a day later. TE Lawrence Cager was having a strong camp but he is out with a hamstring issue. C John Michael Schmitz remains out with a shoulder injury. Rookie S Tyler Nubin (calf) did not practice. DT Dexter Lawrence (illness) returned on a limited basis.
