Did Brandon Aiyuk, John Lynch and Kyle Shanahan just reveal the end of 49ers star's long contract saga?

There haven't been many positive signals about the progress of negotiations between the San Francisco 49ers and Brandon Aiyuk during their long contract impasse.

Aiyuk reportedly had a positive meeting with general manager John Lynch and head coach Kyle Shanahan in June, but that did not lead to any progress towards a deal and the All-Pro wide receiver formally requested a trade this month.

However, Aiyuk's decision to at least report to training camp was seen as a step in the right direction and those who like to interpret body language might have seen his greeting with Lynch and Shanahan during Wednesday's practice as a clear signal the talks have finally reached a resolution.

Aiyuk engaged in a very warm handshake with both Lynch and Shanahan as he arrived to again play the role of spectator at practice.

Of course, the interaction could be completely meaningless, given Aiyuk has been seen watching practice with Lynch several times during training camp.

But the very friendly nature of exchange was enough to get social media abuzz, and understandably so given the 49ers' track record of getting deals with star players done in training camp.

Were the handshakes a sign that an outline of a deal has finally been agreed, or were they instead part of a goodbye from Aiyuk following the 49ers giving the green light to a trade elsewhere?

The latter would seem extremely unlikely given the Niners' steadfast insistence they are not interested in trading Aiyuk. Still, the handshakes are the closest thing to an indicator that something could be on the horizon that the 49ers and Aiyuk have provided at any point in this process.

With the 49ers taking a day off training camp on Thursday, they have a free day to make the announcement if they have in fact agreed a deal. We could soon know if those very warm greetings meant anything at all.
