Sharks President Teases Renovations To SAP Center

The San Jose Sharks play in the SAP Center, one of the older buildings in the NHL, but team president Jonathan Becher has continued to make upgrades the last few seasons.

The SAP Center has gotten an upgrade each of the last three summers. In 2022, the Sharks got a new overhead display, the official name of which is not Jumbotron. In 2023, the SAP Center inputted a new Penthouse Lounge above sections 207-209. Becher now teases a possible upgrade to the new overhead display.

The SAP Center is tied for the fourth oldest building in the league with the Anaheim Ducks. Madison Square Garden is the oldest, opening in 1967-68, followed by the Scotiabank Saddledome. The Calgary Flames are the next franchise in the NHL to get a brand new building, as they recently broke ground on a new entertainment district.

The Sharks and San Jose are discussing their working agreement. While no public progress has been made, positive news has leaked. There seems to be a working understanding to get something done to benefit the Sharks and the City of San Jose.

Whatever the case, Becher seems committed to upgrading the SAP Center as the long-term home of the San Jose Sharks franchise.
