San Jose Sharks winger Tyler Toffoli is facing the Winnipeg Jets for the first time since last season's disappointing playoff run.

Toffoli was traded from the New Jersey Devils to the Jets at last season's trade deadline.

The winger played 18 regular season games for Winnipeg and had seven goals and four assists. He scored two goals in five playoff games against the Colorado Avalanche. The Jets were knocked out in the first round of the postseason.

"There was a lot of excitement when I first got here, and we were really excited," Toffoli said this morning. "It was brief and, at the end of the day, a little disappointing with wanting to go further than we did."

Toffoli has bounced around the league during his career, playing for seven teams, including San Jose.

'I've been on a few teams now, and I think it all goes back to the same mentality of wanting to play well against a former team," Toffoli said. "Tonight's definitely no different."

The 32-year-old has scored three goals in his first four games with the Sharks. He played alongside Macklin Celebrini and William Eklund on opening night. Celebrini hasn't played since, and Eklund will be out of tonight's lineup.

"I've thought it'd be a really good experience," Toffoli said about his decision to sign in San Jose. "[It is] a younger team, but a team looking to go in the right direction. I think we've had some spurts here so far this season, where we've played some good hockey and had chances to win games. Things haven't gone the way that we obviously envisioned, so tonight's another challenge for us to get in the win column and try and build something."

Toffoli will continue to be relied upon to put up goals even when the Sharks get healthier.
