Residents of Lincoln, Otero, Rio Arriba and San Juan counties and the Mescalero Apache Reservation, who applied for FEMA disaster assistance following the South Fork and Salt fires and flooding in New Mexico, should be aware that FEMA may call from unfamiliar area codes and phone numbers or show no caller ID.
Blanco woman missing for nearly 10 years found dead
The body of a Blanco woman missing for nearly 10 years was found July 3 by a person walking in the area, according to the San Juan County Sheriff’s Office. Sharron Holcomb was 64 years old when she disappeared Nov. 18, 2014. She was last seen at 1 p.m. that day, driving away from her Farmington-based business Holcomb Oil and Gas Co. Her car was later found at the family home in Bloomfield, but she was not home.
Two charged with firearm-related felonies near Silverton over July 4 weekend
Two men involved in separate incidents in Silverton over the Fourth of July holiday will likely face felony charges relating to handling of firearms. On Friday July 5, Hector Antonio Burciaga, 24, was arrested by a San Juan County sheriff’s deputy on suspicion of menacing, a class five felony, after he drew a gun during a fight at the WhistleStop Gas Station on U.S. Highway 550 south of downtown Silverton.
