Tarantula Hill Brewing is Coming to San Marcos

Thousand Oaks-based Tarantula Hill Brewing is getting ready to make its San Diego debut with a new location coming to San Marcos at 255 Redel Rd.

The five-year-old brewery is the latest from Brewmaster Mike Richmond and Head Brewer Dante Tomei , who worked together at Stone Brewing for nearly a decade. The two have grown the company to reach from Santa Barbara County to San Diego County but are ready to expand its footprint even more. Tarantula Hill Brewing will soon operate from the Cohn Restaurant Group’s Draft Republic in San Marcos , replacing Carlsbad-based Rouleur Brewing, according to San Diego Beer News .

The space has been used by Rouleur Brewing’s owner, Rawley Macias, as a partner with CRG. Under their agreement, Macias could brew Rouleur’s beers at the facility in exchange for producing a quartet of white-label Draft Republic Brewing beers, allowing the brewmaster to expand his business at a capacity that made sense to his business. Macias recently declined to renew his lease at Draft Republic, allowing Tarantula Hill Brewing to take its space. The brewery has hired brewer Tyler Potter , who has spent several years at Vista-based Pure Project Brewing, to help run the San Marcos facility.

In the next few weeks, the owners will transition the space from the Rouleur brand to Tarantula Hill Brewery. The team hopes to start brewing its beers as soon as next week if everything goes to plan, and the transition is expected to be completed sometime in April . When it opens, customers can expect a variety of beers from Tranatula Hill Brewery on tap, such as Apricot Jackpot, Tarantula Hill IPA, Liquid Candy Hazy IPA, Cali Day IPA, and more, as well as a rotating stock of collaboration beers, one-offs and specialty beers.
