Secrets still held as union approaches end
DEAR ABBY: After many years of trying to keep our family together, divorce is our final option. My husband has had two affairs that I know of during our 30-year marriage. They hurt me deeply. We’ve had lots of counseling, but we can’t get past the damage and breakdown in communication. Should I tell our university- age children about the affairs? I kept them secret for years because he was a good father, and I didn’t want to ruin my kids’ relationship with their dad. But now that we are breaking up, I’m afraid I may be blamed when our situation...

Widow thinks invitation to livestream wedding is rude
DEAR ABBY: The daughter of a friend is getting married and sent an email announcement with a link to watch a livestream of the ceremony. I have never been invited to NOT attend an event before, and frankly, my feelings are hurt. (My husband was an incredible artist. Should I send a livestream of others enjoying his work in person?) Does etiquette require I send a wedding gift? I would’ve understood not being invited if they were keeping it a small affair, but inviting a widow to witness a friend’s emotional, romantic moment in the solitude of her home seems...

This interview took place on July 14, when Allred came to the Daily Record office for a 15-minute in-person interview. It has been lightly edited for grammar and conciseness. The Daily Record reached out to Ted Cruz to schedule an interview but have not been successful as of time of press. Knowing what diet and exercise options are best for you
Reading fitness journals it seems that there is a slight conflict of the trend with the general population. On one side the percentage of overweight and obese people has been increasing with obesity being the majority of heavy people. Then you have the fitness industry that has been getting publicity with more people signing up to belong to a gym or buying fitness equipment to improve health and appearance. It seems the general population is heading in two different directions. For the overweight and obese individuals there are three directions to follow. One is to accept being heavier than the health...
Hot dogs, live music, lemonade
, Summer picnics in the park become memories for life when shared with friends and families while swaying to live music, munching on grilled hot dogs and sipping cold lemonade. If that doesn’t bring on nostalgic moments, nothing will. On Thursday, Aug. 1 the local Air One Air Conditioning & Heating is hosting a fundraiser on behalf of the Heritage Association of San Marcos. Sheila and Lance Beck, owners of Air One, will be serving up hot dogs during Summer in the Park at the corner of Hopkins and C.M. Allen. Chick-fil-A will provide lemonade, hand out mini plush cows and will have their cow mascot on hand to two-step with the Air One mascot, Polly the Penguin. Summer in the Park is a popular summer family tradition in San Marcos. It’s free and open to the public. If you’ve never experienced this live music extravaganza, bring a lawn chair and plan to dance barefoot on the grass next to the river in front of the stage. Don’t bring anything else except a few bucks for a hot dog and cold, fresh lemonade. The rest of the evening is just plain old chill time.
Exploring Nature: Birds & Sex
, Do birds enjoy sex? It depends a lot on the species of bird. For example, the European dunnock has extremely rapid copulation — so much so that it has been timed using high-speed photography at one tenth of a second. That’s an awfully short time to imagine any great enjoyment to be forthcoming. Most small birds copulate for only a second or two and show no sign of any physical pleasure. Other birds partake of sex for much longer periods, but still show no obvious sign of physical pleasure. The greater vasa parrot of Madagascar, for example, has one of the most protracted...
