Historic Colorado mine vandalized by "punk-ass clown," says sheriff
The San Miguel County Sheriff's Office is on the hunt for a "punk-ass clown" who vandalized the historic Tomboy mine in Telluride. A large piece of graffiti can be seen painted onto the stone at the site. San Miguel County Sheriff Bill Masters is offering a reward of $500 to anyone who has information that could lead to an arrest. Tipsters can remain anonymous and should call 970-728-1911. ...
Felony child abuse convictions overturned in high-profile case due to instruction error
Colorado's second-highest court reversed a woman's felony convictions for child abuse resulting in death last month after concluding the instructions that a San Miguel County judge provided the jury did not include the necessary language. Hannah Marshall, 8, and Makayla Roberts, 10, were discovered dead and decomposing in a vehicle...
'Zero Fare for Better Air'
The largest fare-free initiative in the United States takes place right here in Colorado, and San Miguel County is one of the participants. Dubbed ‘Zero Fare for Better Air: We’ll Get You There,’ the program first launched in 2022. It was highly successful, according to Ann Rajewski, Colorado Association of Transit Agencies’ executive director, who singled out Telluride’s role in the program: “Transit systems from all over the state participated,” Rajewski said in a news release, “ranging from those serving the largest cities, like RTD in Denver, to regional rural systems like SMART” in the box canyon (SMART is an acronym for San Miguel Authority for Regional Transportation).

Rural Colorado town’s battle against solar project raises questions about the cultural cost of clean energy
It seemed like a good idea. Put a large solar array on 640 acres of sagebrush and cedar about 30 miles northwest of Telluride. There was already a transmission line running through the property and only some cattle poking around in the shrubs and trees. The Colorado State Land Board,...
New historic interpretive signs installed
It’s no secret that San Miguel County has a rich history. Beginning with its earliest Native American inhabitants through today, there’s a story to be told on every corner, across every vista, and along every trail. Last week, members of the San Miguel County Parks & Open Space Department and the county Historical Commission completed a long-envisioned interpretive sign installation at the observation deck in Ilium Valley, and at the Keystone Gorge Loop Trail, which follows the San Miguel River as it plunges downstream west of Telluride.
