Cal State trustees weigh bid to merge Cal Maritime, Cal Poly San Luis Obispo
A steep drop in enrollment has put Cal Maritime, the smallest of the California State University’s 23 campuses, on a path to merge with Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. Under the plan, which will go before the Cal State board of trustees for discussion Tuesday, Cal Maritime’s 761 students would blend into San Luis Obispo’s 22,000-person student body with the goal of saving on overhead and ultimately attracting more students to the maritime academy.

Construction for Affordable Housing Project Patterson Point to Begin This Week
The Housing Authority of the County of Santa Barbara will begin construction at 80 North Patterson Avenue in Goleta, California the week of July 22, 2024. The new development, to be called Patterson Point, is located on the East side of North Patterson Avenue adjacent to Northbound Highway 101 off-ramp. Firefighters inch closer to containment of 38,664-acre Lake Fire
Firefighters continue to make progress as they battle the 38,664-acre Lake Fire in Santa Barbara County. The fire has been burning north of Los Olivos since July 5th and remains under investigation. Over 2,055 personnel remain dispatched in the firefight with 73 percent containment having been reached this weekend. Some evacuation warnings and orders have been reduced, firefighters said. The area between the western fire perimeter and the Los Padres National Forest Fire Area Closure; and the area east of La Brea Creek and Forest Route 10N06, south of the Los Padres National Forest boundary, and north of the Sisquoc River remained under evacuation orders. The area east of Kelly Canyon, north of Sisquoc River, west of La Brea Creek and Forest Route 10N06, and south of the Los Padres National Forest remained under evacuation warnings. The following roads remain closed: Happy Canyon Road at the Forest Service Boundary; Figueroa Mountain just north of Midland School; Forest Route 10N06; and Zaca Lake Road east of Foxen Canyon Road.
Paso Robles officers nab two suspects with drugs, stolen car
Paso Robles police officers arrested two people on Friday who they found with drugs and a stolen car. Shortly after noon, an officer spotted a stolen vehicle at a gas station in the 1200 block of 24th Street. Officers found and detained two people they found in the stolen car: 35-year-old Nicole Clark and 37-year-old Elmer Guerrero.
