A Cinnaholic Gourmet Bakery outlet serving Queen Creek and San Tan Valley is set to open this week.

The Cinnaholic outlet will open Friday, May 24 at 37584 N. Gantzel Road, just north of Combs Road in the Vinyard Town Centre Mall.

The outlet will offer vegan cinnamon rolls, as well as brownies, coffee cakes and cookies.

The Cinnaholic will be managed and staffed by Hodl Rolls LLC's Matthew K. Hodl and Telor Cansler, according to a press release. Hodl has previous food service experience with the Red Robin Restaurant in Gilbert and the Uncle Bear’s in Queen Creek. Cansler has had management experience with multiple retail corporations.

Hodl silent partners are Kenneth F. Hodl, a retired Chicago traffic engineer, and James J. Hodl, a retired editor and writer for trade journals including Equipment Solutions and Chef, which covered the baking industry, the release stated.

The opening of the Cinnaholic in Queen Creek and San Tan Valley brings the Hodl family back into the bakery business after four generations.

From 1915 to 1933, Sabin and Helen Brudnicki, the maternal grandparents of chief Hodl Rolls investors James and Kenneth Hodl, operated Sabin’s Bakery in Chicago’s Bucktown neighborhood, the release stated. Sabin’s was noted for its Polish rye breads, as well as its bobkas (coffee cakes) and kolachis (cookies). After the Great Depression closed the bakery, Sabin Brudnicki continued to work for other Chicago bakeries until he retired in 1957.

Family recipes have passed through the generations of the Hodl family, with Matthew Hodl the latest to engage in home baking.

“I really like the Cinnaholic concept of offering vegan-recipe pastries,” Matthew Hodl stated in a press release. “Without dairy ingredients, the pastries are safe for people who have milk and egg allergies. And yet the pastries are as tasty and tickles one’s sweets palate as well or better than the standard product.”

Cinnaholic’s signature product is its vegan cinnamon roll, which can be ordered with 20 unique coatings, including Caramel Apple Pie, Very Berry and Campfire S’mores. Customers also can customize the toppings on these rolls.
