The number of educators retiring in Alabama is climbing again, with nine school districts seeing the highest number of retirements in the past decade. Just under 3,100 employees retired from July of 2023 through June of 2024, according to the Teachers Retirement Systems of Alabama. Numbers include teachers and other staff who have vested in the system after at least 10 years of employment.

West Tuscaloosa Gunfight Leaves 1 Injured, Several Houses Struck
A Wednesday morning gunfight in west Tuscaloosa injured one man and saw several area homes struck by bullets. Police are still on the scene and this situation is still developing, but at 9:30 a.m., TPD spokesperson Stephanie Taylor said officers responded to the area of Kaulton Park in west Tuscaloosa after gunshots were reported around 8:45 a.m.
