Sanders County radio station goes live
There's a new voice in Sanders County and it can be heard on the airwaves circulating from Plains. Raf Viniard of Plains created Clark Fork River Radio Station as Internet station CFRR on FM 91.9 located in a separate studio building at his Plains residence. "It has no call letter assigned for FM yet, as we are still brand new and operating under construction license," said Viniard, who added that the station was actually "born" at the end of February, but they just completed the Beta test on June 16 and are streaming live on the Internet and syndicated through its parent company of Ram Communications, owned by him and his wife, Pam.
NOXON BRIDGE CLOSED
The Noxon bridge remains closed after cracks in the structure were discovered during an inspection on Friday. Sanders County Commissioner Tony Cox on Saturday said the county is developing a plan to re-open the structure. A contractor, Neal Structural Repair, has been procured and will be working on repairs this week. NSR will work on a plan with the county and engineering firm Morrison-Maierle, who recently completed a study on the bridge for Sanders County.
Small wildfire contained in Sanders County
Smokejumpers on Thursday, July 4 attacked a small wildfire that cropped up in a forested area of rural Sanders County.The 4-acre Fishtrap Fire on the Lolo National Forest north of Thompson Falls was quickly contained Friday after showing moderate behavior. The initial attack included 10 smokejumpers and firefighting crews from the Plains/Thompson Falls Ranger District and Montana DNRC. A 20-person Type 2 crew and two helicopters helped contain the fire and were mopping up on Friday. Trout Creek angler hauls in record sucker
Montana has a new state record largescale sucker.Wade Merschat, 12, of Trout Creek, used a nightcrawler to land a 6.72-pound largescale sucker from Noxon Reservoir in Sanders County on June 19. Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks biologists verified the state record and issued Merschat his state record certificate on July 1. The fish measured 25.25 inches long.The previous record was 6.16 pounds set in June 2008 from Woodland Park Pond in Kalispell.
