Fire burns down Army Surplus 1 store in Sandpoint

SANDPOINT, Idaho -- The Army Surplus 1 store in Sandpoint burned down in a fire overnight.

According to Bonner County Sheriff's Office, the fire started around 10:30 p.m. Thursday at the store on 5th Avenue and Oak Street.

Firefighters remained on the scene overnight.

According to a Facebook post by the store's owner Cornel Rasor, the store is a total loss and possibly started by a firework lit in a nearby alley that spread to the store.

"This incident will be challenging to the property owner, and our thoughts are with him and his family. Beyond the loss of personal and business property, the resulting void left in our downtown will not be easily replaced," said Mayor Jeremy Grimm.

According to the Bonner County Sheriff's Office, the area of Oak and Fifth Avenue are open.
