MINNEAPOLIS — Outside of a stray sprinkle on Friday afternoon, the Twin Cities can expect another quiet day with a mix of sun and clouds.Breezy northwestern winds, with gusts up to 30 mph, will keep highs in the upper 60s — making Friday the coolest August day since 2018.High pressure will keep the metro dry through the weekend as temps gradually increase back into the mid-70s by Sunday.There are still no good forcing mechanisms for widespread rain into next week, but little bits of upper-level energy could throw a few showers our way between Tuesday and Thursday.Temps will be back in the upper 70s next week, still below the low 80s we typically see.Autumn in August?Late September is when the Twin Cities typically see highs in the 60s. The last August with temps this low was in 2018, which featured eight days in the 60s.In the last 30 years, only 11 Augusts have had highs below 70 degrees, so about once every three to four years.The lowest August high on record? Aug. 3, 1915, which only hit 54 degrees.
