INVASIVE INSECT CONFIRMED IN MINNESOTA FOR THE FIRST TIME
(Minneapolis, MN) — A new invasive insect, the elm zigzag sawfly, has been confirmed in Minnesota for the first time. The insect, native to east Asia and first found in the U.S. in 2021, was discovered on the University of Minnesota Twin Cities campus. While the potential impacts of the sawfly are still unknown, most defoliated elm trees can recover from the insect’s feeding.
